Rutile Titanium Dioxide
Rutile is the dominant, higher-performance crystal form of TiO₂ — higher refractive index, stronger UV and weathering resistance, and higher hiding power than anatase. It is the preferred choice across plastics, coatings, inks and masterbatch applications wherever outdoor durability or long-term opacity is required.
Why rutile
Higher refractive index, better weathering, broader use
Titanium dioxide occurs in two commercially relevant crystal forms — rutile and anatase. Rutile has a higher refractive index (around 2.7 versus roughly 2.55 for anatase), giving stronger light-scattering and hiding power at equivalent loading. It also has markedly better resistance to UV-driven chalking and photodegradation, which is why rutile is the standard choice for any application exposed to sunlight or requiring long-term color and gloss retention.
